Action Alert: Health Care Day at Your Congregation!
3 Easy Ways To Involve Your Congregation on April 26th & 27th
1) Get an announcement in your congregation’s weekly bulletin.
Example: This week is Cover the Uninsured Week, a time to consider the 47 million Americans without health insurance. Across the country, people are joining together to raise awareness and to take action to fix our health care crisis. In Michigan, over 1 million of our neighbors don’t have health care coverage and must live in daily fear of an accident, an injury, the worsening of a chronic condition… As people of faith, we understand that we are all responsible for the one another, and we cannot ignore the suffering of our neighbors. There is something right now that we can do! We can get health care coverage on the ballot this November by supporting Health Care for Michigan. Sign up after today’s/tonight’s service at [designated place] to help make health care a right for everyone in Michigan! Contact [your name and number/email] for more information on how to get involved.
2) Make a brief announcement to your congregation during or following service.
Example: Did you know that today begins Cover the Uninsured Week, a national effort to make sure that all Americans have health care coverage? Today, we acknowledge the 47 million Americans and over 1 million Michiganders without health care coverage. As people of faith, we understand that we cannot ignore the suffering of our neighbors. We can do something about this injustice. Please join me in prayer for those without health care, and join me in action by signing a petition to make health care a right for all in Michigan. I’ll be in the [location] after this service. Thank you.
3) Bring the Health Care for Michigan petition to share with your congregation.
Stop by the ICPJ office (in Memorial Christian Church, 730 Tappan - corner of Hill St. & Tappan Ave.) to pick up petitions and informational fliers. Let your fellow congregants know about Cover the Uninsured Week and Health Care for Michigan; explain why you’re involved with the campaign; ask them to sign the petition; and invite them to get more involved by signing up to be a health care volunteer!
