Join an interfaith discussion on religion, war, and peacemaking on Thursday, May 14.
WHO: Aura Ahuvia, Fr. Peter Dougherty, Imam Achmat Salie.
WHEN: Thursday, May 14, 5:30 – 8:00 (potluck dinner at 5:30, program at 6:00).
WHERE: Social Hall / St Clare Episcopal Church-Temple Beth Emeth, 2309 Packard. Parking both at the church and next door in the back.
WHAT: A interfaith dialogue about the role of religion and religious texts as a tool for peacemaking rather than as a cause for conflict and war. Each tradition has used its texts and understandings to achieve great moral good and we must unstintingly highlight those uses. Among other things, we will explore how religions have been used to bring great suffering and what we can do to stop those practices. A central aim is to expose the myth of redemptive violence that has been used by all three traditions by showing that each tradition has been and continues to be illuminated by the grace of redemptive love and the love of others different from us. Potluck Dinner at 5:30, program at 6:00pm.
Sponsored by the Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice, St. Clare’s Episcopal Church, and Temple Beth Emeth. Details: www.icpj.net, 734-663-1870, info@icpj.net

We’re calling on Congress and the President to investigate U.S.-sponsored torture and to legislate so these abuses never happen again.
Take action now! Tell your Congressperson that we need to investigate U.S. interrogation practices and the treatment of detainees. Click here to send a letter online. Continue Reading »
