Call Sen. Stabenow to Fund Food Stamps

As part of the Michigan Food Stamp Challenge, we’ve been talking about the future of food stamps and how they relate to the Farm Bill.

In the Senate, there are two committees that decide what happens to food stamps and programs like it. The Agriculture Committee sets the rules for these programs in the Farm Bill, and the Finance Committee provides the funds.

Just yesterday I learned that the Senate Finance Committee has been refusing to allocate additional money to food stamps and other nutrition programs.

Here in Michigan, we have a real opportunity to make a difference on this because our Senator, Debbie Stabenow, serves on BOTH the Finance and Agriculture committees.

Please call Senator Stabenow at (202) 224-4822 or email her at and tell her:

“As a Michigan resident, I urge you to ensure that the Finance Committee provide funds to improve food stampbenefits and that the Agriculture Committee then approve improvements in Food Stamp Program access and benefitlevels.”

The Finance committee will probably act on this in the next week, so please make your call TODAY.
