This tour seeks to educate and mobilize concerned citizens by placing the issue of debt cancellation within the context of broader movements that combat poverty and empower impoverished communities.

Speakers include:

Romulo Torres (Perú) - Director of the Peru Solidarity Forum and Executive Coordinator of the Latin American Network on Debt and Development (LATINDADD).

Abby Fisher - National Tour Coordinator for Jubilee USA Network.

Romulo TorresRómulo Torres (Perú) has over 25 years of experience in Civil Society Organizations on local, national and international levels. He is Director of the Peru Solidarity Forum and Executive Coordinator of the Latin American Network on Debt and Development (LATINDADD). He has served as Consultant Department of Solidarity at the Episcopal Commission for Social Action. Romulo has participated in numerous civil society dialogues in both Southern and Northern countries, including a panel discussion at the 2005 G8 meetings, and travels frequently to speak about debt and development.

Rómulo began his career promoting rights of campesinos and indigenous communities. His current work involves monitoring the Peruvian government’s social and economic policies and educating Peruvians and concerned citizens around the world about a broad range of human development issues. The current debate in the U.S. Congress over the Peruvian Free Trade Agreement will provide an interesting backdrop for Rómulo’s presentation.
