Run for Peace Update

Sunday was the big day for me, the Detroit Marathon Run for Peace. I’m happy to report that I managed to run the full race, all 26.2 miles, and I was still able to walk the next day (though stairs did present a bit of a challenge).Chuck Warpehoski in 2006 Run For Peace

The biggest insight for me in the marathon was that the last 3 miles were all mental. The wind was fierce, my body was tired, but it was my mind that decided if I stopped or kept going.

I kept going.

Just like we in the peace and justice movement keep going even when we’re tired and when the winds of popular culture blow against us.

We keep going.

I feel lucky to work with ICPJ and with so many people who have kept going for over 40 years. Thank you! And thank you to everyone who sponsored my Run for Peace, your support was part of what helped me dig down in those last few miles to finish the run (and if you haven’t sponsored me yet, you still can at: http://tinyurl.com/yzcens ).

You can view photos of the run at: http://www.runphotos.com/browse.cfm?race_id=98&bib_number=765 (though I must admit, as the picture here shows, they are not very flattering).

My final time was 3:28:41, which you can verify for yourself at: http://www.doitsports.com/newresults3/client/761_136700_2006.txt

Thank you again to all who supported me!
