Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice empowers people of faith and people of conscience in the Washtenaw County/Ann Arbor, Michigan area to act on their moral and religious values to build a better world.

How can you get all your holiday shopping done in one afternoon, under one roof, and support people in need all around the world? Come to the Alternative Holiday Fair. The event will take place on Sunday afternoon, December 3rd from 3:00 until 7:00 at the First Baptist Church of Ann Arbor. Vendors such as Ten Thousand Villages, Heifer International, SERRV and local peace and justice organizations will be selling fairly traded goods and/or items that promote peace and justice. The Alternative Holiday Fair is a great shopping substitute for those looking to support important causes with their holiday shopping dollars.

Come get briefed on the Jubilee Act (H.R. 1130), which expresses a much broader vision for debt cancellation than the deal reached at the 2005 G-8 summit and would commit the U.S. to work for debt cancellation for 50 impoverished nations without devastating economic conditions; to write letters to our representatives encouraging support of the Jubilee Act, and to eat breakfast. Jesus preached a message of radical equality, where all humanity is united in God’s love. He taught his followers to “love your neighbor as yourself,” and he extended that call by showing that your neighbor may include somebody of a different religion or ethnicity (as in the case of the good Samaritan), or even your own enemy. Paul’s letter to the Galatians explains the implications of God’s universal love by writing that in Christ, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female.” (Galatians 3:28)
